The division of Rubaga holds sports activities/events in the first and second term of the year. There, all schools engage and participate in events with the aim of developing the children’s talents and skills in addition to academics. They also aim at selecting a skilled team from various schools to compete in the other levels like the zonal level, division level, district and national level.
The activities that they are engaged in are athletics, football for both girls and boys, netball, volleyball among others. During the first term, Rubaga zone organized athletics, which were held on the 18th March 2010. Many different schools within Rubaga always practice for that Sports day to come. After that completion, a team, which will be selected will proceed to the next level (division level) and thereby a final team to represent the division will also be chosen.
This term, we participated in athletics, throws, discuss and javelin. However, during the second term we engage in football, netball and volleyball. So the children are practiced daily to look fit for at the competition. The best students are awarded in form of certificates, sponsorships and scholarships as well as trophies.
Athletics competitions held on 18th March 2010 at Nabagereka Primary School
The competitions comprised of only five schools of which our school was among. This was a low attendance and it was assumed that some schools were under fear due to the then saga of the Kasubi tombs fire, which affected the arrangements.
We engaged in activities like athletics, which comprised of several different distances and also field events like short put. However, some events were not carried out such as javelin, discuss, throwing due to lack of equipments as well as the limited funds to facilitate the competition.
Rubaga Community School emerged the first in short put for both the girls and boys, 400 races, 100 m races and therefore some of our students were selected to represent Rubaga zone to the next level competitions which took place on 23rd March 2010 at Wankuluku stadium.
Back in November 2009 we had the pleasure of receiving a visit from photographer Kenneth Ntulume who had agreed to take some photos of the everyday life at the school. We are very pleased with the result – below is a small selection of Kenneth fantastic images.
If you are in the Kampala area and looking for a photographer Kevin can is highly recommended.
Both Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th March, all the children at Rubaga Community School were doing their mid term exams. The exams were on all the subjects they have had this term and covers what they have learnt since they started in February. The results will be back later this week. The mid-term exam is a test done in the whole of the Kampala district. On 15th April, they’ll have an end of term exam which will also last 2 days.
Secondary
Our P7 students had a long break while waiting anxiously for the results of their end of Primary school exams that came in February.
Once the students in P7 finish here at Rubaga Community School they will have to find a secondary school where they can continue their studies. Unfortunately not all managed to attend secondary school, as they did not have any funds, but we are trying to help them out with that. Those who were fortunate enough to have a sponsor have already started S1.
In the future, it would be ideal for us to have a secondary section so that our students have the possibility of continuing with secondary school with us.

We are very happy and excited to announce that we have received a donation form Rubaga Friends to build a kindergarten! The construction has been going on for about a month and it is going very well. It is going to be a 2 plan building with 4 class rooms, 4 toilets, a kitchen and a little office. So far, the first floor has almost been completed. We expect to have the kindergarten all done by June and we look very much forward to opening the doors to the little new members of Rubaga Community School in July. It will be able to house around 50 children.
Some of the Rubaga Friends members are planning to visit us in July which we look forward to – we welcome them with open arms!

At 5am 11th October we sadly lost a dear friend of ours due to illness. Kate Namalwa had worked at Rubaga Community School as an assistant matron and as a cook since 2000(X). As an assistant matron, she took care of the orphans at the school and they naturally saw her as their mother because they were so attached to her. The loss for them, and her 2 children she left behind, is tremendous, but together we will get through it.
Kate Namalwa has lived at the school the past four years since she divorced her husband. She leaves 2 daughters behind aged 15 and 9 who attend the school.
Kate contributed with a lot to the school. She used to go to the market to buy food, washed the clothes for the young ones and basically taught the orphans the daily housework one would be taught at home. She was a very good worker, colleague, friend and mother and she will always be remembered for that.
Kate Namalwa will be dearly, dearly missed by us all. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Allow me to take this opportunity to inform you about the situation at the school, and what we have gone through the last three days here in Kampala and the suburbs. Some of you have seen the news about the situation in central Uganda on BBC or CCN and others may not have.
The lack of reliable Internet has always been a nuisance and complication meet by many businesses and organizations in Africa. Just as an ordinary infrastructure the online infrastructure is invaluable for a country trying to progress with modern communications.
If there is one thing our visitors always ask, it is “what is everyday life like at the school”. Actually a school day here is like every other school – but with a couple of exceptions.
Many visitors might wonder why we have got a website. Is it really necessary for a school like ours to have an online presence? Perhaps it isn’t but we suspect it will help us a great deal. So lets take a look at the factors that led us to start a website.
